Additive Manufacturing with CMT Process + Schlieren Imaging Technique

This video shows a CMT (Cold Metal Transfer) process for additive manufacturing using a flux-metal-cored tool steel wire. Footage was taken with a high-speed camera and CAVILUX laser illumination.
Illumination is applied from front to see the details of the core process. In addition the system is placed in a Schlieren imaging setup to visualize the flow of the protective gas. CAVILUX laser illumination with short pulses is used as a light source also for the Schlieren setup. This enables obtaining high quality images without motion blur.

Video was taken in cooperation with LAL – Laser Application Laboratory of Tampere University (former Tampere University of Technology).

Used camera: Phantom v2640 provided by Citius Imaging Ltd.
