Imaging the flow of protective gases in arc welding is challenging. With the Schlieren imaging method and our CAVILUX illumination laser one gets a clear view of the gas flow. Adding front illumination to the setup increases the amount of information obtained from the process significantly and one can study for example melt pool behavior and drop forming in applications like GMAW or TIG welding while seeing the gas flow.
